Meeting Recap
Barbara Nichols, IABA President, welcomed everyone to the meeting. She handed out information on the The Little Loomhouse Storytelling Festival this Saturday from 11:30-3:30 (www.littleloomhouse.org), and a seasonal schedule for the Iroquois Amphitheater (iroquoisamphitheater.com). Each person in attendance introduced themselves and their business.
Barbara then introduced our special guest, Scott Love, Metro Economic Development Coordinator. Scott gave an overview of what resources are available to small businesses. He was urged to get more metro help getting businesses to set up food and retail shops in the Colonial Gardens property which will supplement activities and events at Iroquois Amphitheater.
We also had 5 police officers in attendance from the 3rd and 4th Divisions. LT Don George of the 4th Division shared that crime was down 1% during the Oaks/Derby festivities this year. Crime overall is down 15% in the division, but criminal mischief is up. He shared the importance of businesses going over their security procedures often and keeping their guards up. He requested feedback from businesses and residents in the division so that they can improve what they are doing. SGT Chris Boyer of the 3rd Division reported that they are setting up a system for email blasts to businesses in our association to help us be aware of what crimes are taking place around us. He also reported the continuing problem of thefts in trailers, and thefts of air conditioning units, and propane tanks. Much concern was expressed about the rise of vandalism in Iroquois Park. He encouraged the reporting of all crimes no matter how minor and said things would get better through teamwork with the 4th Division offices.
Mission Statement The mission of the IABA is to support, educate and represent through a unified voice the Iroquois-area businesses in an effort to enhance the community.
